TEFAQ

The French Assessment Test for Access to Quebec (TEFAQ) is a general French test which aims to measure the level of knowledge and skills in French.

It is the version of the TEF recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion (MIDI) and is essential for making an official immigration request.

What are the tests?

The TEFAQ is made up of four modular tests:
· Oral comprehension : 40 min – 60 questions
· Oral expression : 15 min – 2 topics to cover
· Written comprehension : 60 min – 50 questions
· Written expression : 60 min – 2 topics to cover

An electronic results certificate will be sent to you.

The e-TEFAQ allows you to earn points according to the following scale:

In order to claim maximum points when presenting your results in your immigration application file, it is recommended that you take the oral comprehension and expression tests and if your writing level is advanced, also present all the written tests.

HOW TO OBTAIN THE RESULTS?

At the end of the test and after correction of the proofs, you will receive a certificate of results. It indicates the scores obtained in each test.

If you wish, you can take the test several times. However, a two-month waiting period is required. between two successive transfers.

DEMATERIALIZED CERTIFICATE

If you have passed the TEF Naturalization or the TEFAQ, you will receive an email giving you access to a electronic results certificate (you will not be issued a paper certificate). This dematerialized certificate is an official document which you can present to the competent authorities as part of your administrative procedures.

How long is my test valid?

The validity of the results is two years.

What level must I obtain for my application to be accepted by MIDI?

When assessing knowledge of French, level B2 is the minimum threshold from which points are awarded.

I already have a TEF Canada certificate less than two years old, is it recognized for immigration to Quebec?

Your certificate TEF Canada is recognized by MIDI for an immigration application to Quebec.

 Attention ! The TEF Quebec (TEFAQ) is not recognized by the IRCC for your immigration application to Canada.

Are there cases of exemptions from TEFAQ?

  • Before the session: You can request a single copy (for a fee) of your paper results certificate, before the session, when you register.
