The Civic Exam has been mandatory since 1 January 2026 for any application for a long-stay residence permit or naturalisation. 40 multiple-choice questions on 5 themes.
Civic Exam — Multi-year residence card

Civic Exam — Resident card

Civic Exam — Naturalisation

What to know before registering
- Mandatory since 1 January 2026 for long-stay residence permits and naturalisation
- 40 multiple-choice questions — duration: 30 minutes

- Valid ID required on exam day
- Results sent directly to the prefecture
