What are the tests?

The test allows you to demonstrate your French language skills in 5 tests of your choice depending on your student mobility project.

The TEF for study in France

For a first application for registration in the first year of university in France (bachelor's degree cycle)

The TEF has been recognized as part of the DAP procedure (prior admission application) by the French Ministry of Higher Education since 2004.

Officially recognized since 2004 by the French Ministry of National Education, the TEF assesses written and oral French skills for any foreign student applying for registration in an undergraduate degree. university studies in France.

Format: The exam consists of two sections, A and B. Section A – 25 minutes Write the remainder of an article (80 words minimum) Section B – 35 minutes Express and justify your point of view (200 words minimum)

The Oral Expression test is optional for the preliminary admission application.

To demonstrate sufficient language proficiency for first-year university enrollment, you must achieve a score of 400/699 or higher on the TEF written exams.

2. The TEF to integrate French-speaking establishments (outside France)

Many French-speaking higher education institutions, particularly in Canada and Quebec, recognize the TEF as proof of your French language proficiency as part of the admissions process.

Check directly with the school you wish to attend when applying: they will tell you the number and type of TEF tests you will need to take.

Take the test

On the day of the exam, show up at your test center at the time specified on your invitation.

The invigilator will check your ID and your appointment notice. They will have you validate your personal information (first and last name, date of birth, and email address) and sign on a tablet.

This information will appear on your results certificate. Make sure it is accurate, or request an update at that time.

The invigilator will then tell you where to sit to start the test.

To remember:

  • – Turn off your cell phone and any other electronic devices.
  • – You cannot use a dictionary or any reference material.
  • – No personal effects must be left in sight or on the table during the tests, with the exception of your identity document.
  • – You must not communicate with other candidates.
  • → During the oral comprehension and expression tests, no support (rough paper, notes, documents) is permitted.
  • – No latecomers are allowed into the room once the test has started.
  • – No outings are authorized for the duration of the written tests

Computer tests

The written comprehension, oral comprehension, vocabulary and structure, and written expression tests are conducted on a computer.

The invigilator will provide you with an access code to connect to the online test platform.

Once logged in, follow the instructions for each test.

Each audio is played only once. You have a few seconds to read the questions before the audio automatically starts, and then a response time after the audio.

The oral expression test takes place face to face with an examiner.

Certificate

How do I get my results?

Your results will be sent to you within approximately 2 weeks.

You will receive an email with a link allowing you to access an online digital safe (you will not be issued a paper certificate).

You will be able to download your results certificate there.

The results are valid for two years.

This certificate is an official document that you can present to the Canadian authorities as part of your administrative procedures.

To note This certificate is kept by our services for a period of 10 years. Remember to save it for any use beyond this period.

Results

Your certificate tells you your score for each test on a scale from 0 to 349.

It also specifies your language level per test, on the scale from A1 to B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) scale.
